Why offshore wind processes should be integrated and collaborative
Following our recent blog post about Sizewell C, another Suffolk news item caught the team’s eye at HSEQ-360 Limited this week. It concerned three offshore wind farms off the Suffolk coastline with a 1.4GW capacity.
This work is being carried out by ScottishPower Renewables, as it already has a wind farm in Suffolk. This new project begins at Bramford, in collaboration with Siemens Energy and Aker Solutions.
Costs are being reduced too by sharing cable trenches with the current East Anglia One project.
ScottishPower’s project is a welcome one with the gas price crisis and the need for cheaper, renewable sources of UK electricity as Ross Ovens, MD of the East Anglia Hub, confirms:
“Energy in the UK has become a critical issue in recent months – not just for those of us who work in the industry – but for everyone. And the solution is simple – more green electricity made in the UK for the UK. Not in 10, 15 or 20 years, but now.”

Starting construction on East Anglia Three takes us one step closer to that reality and it’s great to see that happen so soon after the project’s success in Allocation Round 4. It’s a really exciting time for us and for the East of England.”
What is laudable too, and across the offshore industry we serve, is the level of collaboration involved between ScottishPower, Aker Solutions and Siemens Energy.
Collaboration is always better than a singular approach and is something we demonstrate daily in our work with Orsted, Opergy, AFS Ltd and RTS Wind UK.

Clearly, there are other advantages too: group cohesion, higher quality output and improved morale.
This collaborative approach has seen building work start this week on the £6.5 million East Anglia Three wind farm, which is set to deliver a significant proportion of the Government’s target of 50GW of offshore wind by 2030.
EA ONE has already supported around 3,500 jobs at the peak of construction and 100 long-term skilled jobs, as well as delivering investment of around £145million in businesses and the supply chain across the East of England.
East Anglia Three is a welcome addition to the renewable sector in our regional base.
